Medical Direction (MD) is a service of the Science Undergraduate Society (SUS) and serves as the official pre-medical society of McGill University, supported by the Faculty of Science. Our aim is to enhance the experiences of students interested in a career in medicine so that they can make an informed and educated decision.
MD offers a shadowing program with health care professionals and current medical students, informative speaker events, academic seminars, and various social networking opportunities (wine and cheese socials with med students, group volunteer activities, charity events, etc.).
MD also organizes medical humanitarian trips in partnership with two international NGOs – Global Medical Training (GMT) and Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere (MEDLIFE). Trips to Panama, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, and beyond allow students to have a hands-on medical experience as they will learn how to take basic blood pressure, check vitals, and diagnose basic diseases in rural communities.
MedCasts is one of MD’s major projects. Started in the fall of 2009, MedCasts provides podcasts of interviews and discussions with undergraduates, current medical students, physicians, and professionals in the healthcare industry about the application process, emdical school, and careers in medicine.
